Linux on my iBook
Just for fun, I decided to install Ubuntu Linux on my old G3 iBook and I’m writing this post on it. Check it out:

First impressions? The install was very easy. You boot off a CD that actually loads the whole OS so you can check for driver compatibility and everything before you ever actually install anything. For now, it’s kind of fun to play around on, but I doubt I’ll keep it on here long-term. The GUI is still too Windowsish and is pretty sluggish. I was hoping it would be at least as responsive as OS X is, but it’s not really even close. For my new job at the U, I’m learning my way around Unix’s command line interface, so it’s kinda fun to open up a Terminal window in Linux and feel like I’m starting to get the hang of it. However, I can now do the exact same thing in Mac OS X, so not much point is there?
