Dictionary.app pop-ups (and an inexplicable flaw)

One of the cool Mac tricks even long-time Mac users may not know about is that if you hover your cursor over a word in any Cocoa app and press Control-Command-D, you get a cool little pop-up Dictionary. I find squiggly red lines everywhere irritating, so I actually use this as a kind of super spellcheck sometimes. But today I found a shortcoming:
Why is “inexplicably” inexplicably missing when it’s clearly in Dicionary.app?
Apparently derivatives aren’t included in this magic pop-up feature. I’m not sure why it couldn’t flag it as a derivative and then define the source word.
