Profile of Bob Barr in the New Yorker.
He’s an interesting character, I’ll give him that much. He’s now a libertarian, so that means he now has slightly more sensible views on social issues and a crazy ideological take on economic issues.
I’ve really tried, but I still don’t quite get how libertarianism (at least this country’s pro-capitalist variant of it) seems to appeal to so many people on such an intuitive level. I get the distrust of a powerful, centralized government, but I don’t see how that can coexist with such a naive trust of powerful, centralized corporations. Either you’re skeptical of centralizing power (in any source, public or private) or you’re not, right?
