Haha - no, I haven't paid much attention to that but that is kind of creepy. There are greasemonkey scripts out there to hide the ads...I may have to do that.

I thought of one more thing that bugs me: no way to merge (or split, for that matter) conversations.

Great post, I totally agree with everything. I actually wish our university would get rid of Outlook and use Gmail instead. Several smaller colleges have saved tons of $ using Google Apps. Although, I do understand the need for privacy and I'm sure MU wouldn't want Google to have that kind of access to employee emails. Have you ever noticed that the sidebar Google ads are extremely relevant to the email you are reading/writing in Gmail? :-)

Just joined Facebook ~ month ago and thought that was a cute feature too. I am really liking the WordBook plugin. I'm still trying to get Twitter to work with my Sprint phone though. I see we both share an affinity for The Simpsons :-) Great Homer ringtone: http://demp.se/y/2007/07/19/the-simpsons-movie-spider-pig-clip-download/

Well, in defense of the populace, both I and the Strib (especially the Strib...) should've mentioned that, for the most part, the Aszmun's are not particularly representative of <a href="http://pewresearch.org/pubs/474/female-president" rel="nofollow">how most Americans say they feel</a>. Considering it took me one quick Google search to find this polls...it's irresponsible of the Strib to lead the article like that, especially when they go on to discuss how many people have objections to Hilary regardless of her gender. It'd be like finding some random Republican who believes we should massively increase welfare spending (and I'm sure you can find many) and using that to call into question the Republican commitment to not increasing welfare spending.

I can foresee where this is heading, of course, if Hilary loses the primary: the media will say it's because she was a women and completely ignore her stance on issues that make her a bad candidate (including any issues meaningful to women in particular).

Regarding maximizing the window vertically, I found that instead of hard-coding the actual value of your display, you can set it to something greater than your display, and it will get set to the actual greatest possible automatically. This is useful if you sometimes use an external display, or even multiple different external displays. Whichever display contains the current window is the one that it gets set to. I changed this line in the maximize vertically script (1200 is the greatest y resolution of all of my external monitors).

set display_y_size to 1200

Wow! - I guess my hd fever is spreading. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. It's about time I got my own script running - let's talk about that soon (right now I've got a 1 month old complete disk image on my backup array, but no nightly rsync).

What a great example of how slacking can be both the cause of a problem, and the reason why it's not so bad anyway.

Fantastic story. I especially enjoyed the veiws you shared regarding political and religious beliefs. I parallel some of those and still continue seeking the answers. Sounds like you had a great experience. My wisdom has come from an open-mind and repeated mistakes. By the way if your wondering who the hell this is?? I'm your cousin (The oldest grandson of the Smajda descent) Granny told me about the blog and it's intriguing!! I've spent Friday evening reading almost the entire site and enjoyed it immensely. The family is still boggled by your talents but completly support it. Hope you keep typing and congrats on the new addition. Ours are 16-17 and it gies so fast. When the go to college they will be missed. Mainly on our tax forms,,other than that it goes so fast . They are 1 of the greatest gifts I've experienced in life!! They taught me more about life than anything else. Hope Jay and Jen are good and say hi to the folks. George has always been the best and I know he's so proud as is Maggie. Keep it up .
Thanks for stopping by, Evo. I hadn't even considered the fact that not subscribing to the feed wouldn't help as much on your end. I actually tried subscribing first, but iTunes was being difficult at the time... I'll subscribe from now on, and update the entry to reflect this.

And thanks for the recommendations! I'll check them out.

That wasn't J.C.. That was one of his clone army impersonating J.C.. Good to have friends. Better to have clones.

But in all seriousness, thanks for your write up. I hadn't thought that folks would use DownloadThemAll, but it makes sense. Our system only counts subscribers right now, so maybe we need to find a way to grab folks like you as well. Hrm. Things to ponder.

I also need to make some clarification to the staff page. In *all* cases, the podiobooks from staff members were created by those staff members (from writing to final production) prior to their becoming a staff member. I think that's an important distinction, and I need to point that out. Thanks for bringing it to a head.

A few other books to try, since I'm getting a feel for what you like?

- Shadowmagic
- Quatershare
- The Immortals

All three are finished. All three sound great. All three impressed the heck out of me.

Maybe someone will find this in a Google search someday and I can save them some headaches. [...]

My great-grandparents came to the US from Hungary in 1910-something, I think. My dad did a little research on the Smajda name awhile back and found it's more common in Poland than Hungary, where our family is from though. I'm not sure if we can trace things back to Poland or not. I'll forward this onto my grandma though, she likes to keep track of this stuff, and let you know if she knows of any possible Polish connections.
